The Great Journey in Photography

OK – so one last little tidbit of knowledge that I picked up this Summer for shooting birds in flight. Seems like a no brainer but you really need to make every effort to honor the golden hour. Shoot as late as possible into the sunset in particular. There may be times when you will be faced with a hike at the end of the day and nobody really wants to be the one walking through the country in full darkness, so the temptation is to pack up and hit the road when there is just enough time to make it back to the world safely. Resist the urge. Always be the last photographer to leave. Work your camera settings to keep that shutter speed up and you will be rewarded with better color and softer shadows. The birds will tell you when it is time to go home.
